http://stlmusicpress.com/news/?p=6209On their first headlining appearance at Off Broadway, on August 12, 2011, under a waxing moon,
Amy Lavere flanked the red velvet-backed stage with her band mates that included violinist
Krista Wroten, guitarist
David Cousar and drummer
Shawn, to a very different crowd than their last two performances at the venue. This time the crowd was full and there to see and hear them, as a headliner! Their fans were anxious, focused, eyes on the prize, and eager to hear the live renditions of Lavere’s third full-length album,
Stranger Me, a follow-up to their acclaimed
Anchors and Anvils.
Stranger Me, a departure from their earlier sound, has all the making of something new and beautiful for Amy and the band. Wrapping up the last night of the first leg of their international tour, they executed the bluesy, folksy riffs easily, Lavere’s vocals lighting up the room. Fans swayed and and hung on each note, admiring Amy and company’s unique style and sound, complimented by Cousar’s guitar riffs and Wroten’s violin solos. Special treats from the album included “Damn Love Song” and a cover of Captain Beefheart’s “Candle Mambo”.
The approving crowd brought them back up on stage for a double-encore before Lavere rewarded adoring fans with some band merch, smiles and photos, before slipping out and heading back to Memphis to rest before beginning the second leg of their tour.
